7 Things Every Pool Owner Should Do To Keep Their Pool Clean

Posted on

Are you new to owning a swimming pool and need to learn more about how to maintain it? If so, it will help to know the following things you should be doing to keep your pool as clean as possible.

Skim The Water

It's important that you skim the water regularly to remove as much debris as possible that is floating on the surface. Every day there is going to be a collection of bugs and leaves that can easily be removed through the pool rather than let go through the filter.

Brush The Surfaces

You'll want to have a scrub brush so that you can clean the floor and walls of the pool. This will help get the algae off the surface of the pool so that it can be skimmed or removed by the pool filter.

Check The Chemistry

You should be checking the pool chemistry regularly to make sure that your alkalinity, chlorine, and pH levels are all balanced. If not, you could end up in a situation where algae grows in your pool and you have a lot more cleaning to do. Thankfully, it's easy to add the right chemicals to keep your water clean.

Backwash The Filter

There is going to be a lot of dirt and debris that gets caught in the filter. Backwashing the filter is going to help remove any debris that is stuck to it so that it can be removed, which allows your filter to do a better job of keeping the water clean.

Empty Skimmer Baskets

There will be one or more skimmer baskets around the pool that help catch large debris. These baskets should be emptied when they are full, which can happen after a lot of large debris falls into your pool. Empty skimmer baskets are going to help your pump operate much better.

Circulate The Water Regularly

Not using the pool for a few days? It's still important to let the pool's pump run every single day. There will be a recommended amount of time based on your pool's size, which simply helps circulate the water in the pool and keep it clean.

Add Water When Needed

It's also important to add more water to the pool when you notice that the levels drop. Less water may not seem like such a bad thing, but it causes the concentration of chemicals in the pool to be higher, which can cause problems with keeping it all at the proper chemistry levels.
