Inground Swimming Pool Refurbishment Considerations

Posted on

Refurbishing a swimming pool can be labor-intensive, but may cost dramatically less than having a brand-new water feature installed on your property. If your inground pool contains outdated and damaged access points and decking materials, research the cost of new materials and the refurbishment methods that are offered.

The Original Shape Or A Modification

Refurbishing a pool that will permanently retain its original shape will be less expensive than having modifications made to the size of a pool or the manner in which the water feature can be accessed. Some less expensive modifications that will support the use of the original pool shape are to have ladders installed alongside the pool or to have built-in steps resurfaced.

Some more extensive upgrades would include creating a sloped access point. This type of entry point is sometimes referred to as a beach entry area. The gentle sloping alongside the end of a pool will allow a swimmer to ease themselves into a shallow area. As a swimmer moves further into the pool, the depth of the water will increase.

There are also access setups that include a sunken jacuzzi. This will separate the hot water from the cooler water that is within a pool. The side of the hot water feature will be adjacent to the original water feature. Expanding the size of a pool will require much more work, including the excavation of the land that surrounds the original water feature.

Economical, Cosmetic, And Safety Features

Energy-efficient lighting and an adjustable pump are two upgrades that may reduce the overall cost to keep your pool running. Your contractor can determine how much energy your pool currently consumes and recommend some economical products that can be used in place of your current lighting and pump setup.

Refinishing the decking or expanding the deck are two ways to improve the area that surrounds your pool. Faux stones, tiles, wood, and paint are materials that are commonly used to improve the aesthetics of a deck. A non-slip coating will prevent accidents from occurring when the decking material is wet.

Safety rails can be installed along the interior walls of a swimming pool. A series of rails can be placed near a set of steps or along the deeper sections of a pool. When choosing decking materials, you may want to coincide the design of the upgrades with the colors of the materials that comprise the pool's interior. If any tiles within the pool are outdated or broken, they can be replaced with products that are similar to the ones that are being used to upgrade the deck.
